Will Bing Be a Bang in 2009?

The top two search engines have a new competitor, or rather a competitor with a new name. Microsoft officially released Bing on June 3, 2009 as its search engine for the 21st century. Bing is a vertical search engine, offering improved online search capabilities and more relevant search results.
Vertical search is more comprehensive than horizontal search whereas it attempts to provide many sources for what you’re searching for. Horizontal searches – those we normally do on Google or Yahoo for a certain buzz word or phrase and then thousands if not millions of search results appear.
However all the major search engines and browsers (Google, Yahoo, Firefox) have sought to improve this process by providing drop down menus listing “suggestions” for whatever you are searching, you are still not likely to get exactly the right match. One reason is that the current search engines can only read the first 60 characters of your search query and oftentimes if you are typing in more than three or four words, you’re less likely to find what you want because SEO specialists are not optimizing this many words.
For example, if you type in wood furniture, traditional horizontal search does not know if you are a consumer shopping for wood furniture, or if you are looking to refurbish used wood furniture. Alternatively, if you type in “flu symptoms,” you might be a doctor looking for the latest medical news on the virus or a young mother looking for information for her child’s fever.
This is where Bing, Microsoft’s Live Search replacement, comes into play with its vertical search capability. Vertical or intelligent search results will help users cut down on all the useless and irrelevant search results, and thus decrease search time. With Bing, search results will include not only organic listings, but also images, videos, shopping, and travel sites as it relates to the search query.
Bing will also provide pros and cons of search results as well as help online shoppers find the best bargains by providing prices with each product searched. Although Bing seeks to outperform Google, Microsoft still comes in third place as a search engine. As more than 85% of Internet users choose Google as their number one search engine regardless of the browser they choose.
How Bing is Different from Google and Yahoo – Watch for these Bangs in 2009
Best Match – Most relevant results are shown first in the search results
Instant Answers – Provides a one-click access to information listed in the search results
Deep Links – Provides more resources of the particular site
Bing Travel Rate Key – Provides comparisons of hotel location, price and amenities, which are each, color-coded
Left Hand Navigation Menu – Titled as the Explorer Pane; it changes with each search query to allow more specific tabs to define your search. Also includes other categories, which include Related Search and Search History.
Other search engine startups have tried to compete with top search engines Google and Yahoo, such as Cuil, which quickly fizzled out before it reached the general public. Search engine strategists comment that Bing may attract professionals not in the internet marketing or IT business, but Google will retain its top position as the choice search engine for everyone else.

Is Optimizing Your Website for Bing will benefit you in future?
As many a blog entry will go over, there’s been a good amount of buzzing around the launch of Microsoft’s new Bing search engine. Moreover, there’s been a well-brought-up quantity of rumor on what the growing popularity of Bing — along with their recent agreement with Yahoo — will mean in regards to Search Engine Optimization.
There is lot of rumor in internet that Bing is stealing market share from Google. Question keep on buzzing in our mind
1. What if Bing, after the initial buzz around their launch upland, begins to steadily challenge Google’s long standing dominance both in market share and SEO focus?
2. What can I do now to start making sure my site is well optimized for Bing so that I’m not playing catch up a year from now when all of my competitors are ranking well within both Google and Bing?
In response to the first question, what seems to be the common theme in most responses to this by industry experts is that Google for a long time now hasn’t had a realistic challenger to its search dominance, allowing them to focus on side projects such as the recently announced Chrome OS, upcoming Google Wave, and Cloud applications such as Google Documents.
What you’ll most likely see as Bing becomes a stronger competitor in the realm of Search, is that Google will begin — as it has already with the May launch of their “Show Options” feature — to release features to better compete with some of Bing’s advertised advantages over Google.
While many of these changes will be designed to enhance and better organize results, many believe the recent competition imposing by Bing will benefit visitors looking for relevant results, as well as sites looking to have them found for relevant queries.
In response to the second question, the answer is to continue to focus on the same SEO best practices you’ve been focusing on. The type of SEO work and tasks webmasters need to perform to be successful in Bing haven’t changed — all of the skills and knowledge that webmasters have invested in previously applies fully today with Bing. Moreover, investments in solid, reputable SEO work made for Bing will bring similar improvements in your website’s page rank in Google and Yahoo! as well.
SEO task you should do for Bing optimization for your website.
* Unique, keyword-oriented Titles and Meta Descriptions for ever page of your site
* Keyword-oriented, clean and well-structured URLs
* Singular themes per page with keyword-oriented content in reference to your page’s theme
* Submission of a well structured and relevant XML sitemap to Bing’s Webmaster Center
* Submission of your site to Bing using Bing’s Ping service
There still certain factors while starting SEO service for Bing search engine such as the quality of your inbound links, along with other standard SEO best practices play significant roles.
While the same SEO best practices will assist your site’s ranking within Bing, some of these items — according to initial studies — seem to play a greater role with Bing than they do with Google. Meta Descriptions is one example. Currently, Bing places more importance on the quality of your Meta Descriptions than Google does.
What this means for some sites is that focusing on these same SEO practices, with a tighter focus on the quality of your Meta Descriptions and quality, unique content can help even sites reliant on longer-tail searches be more visible, due to different user behavior on Bing. This is true as well with a more local-focus being presented by Bing. It is reported that Bing is weighting local results in a more aggressive manner than Google.
Of course, with Bing being relatively new, things could change as the competition with Google heats up. The advent of new features and options — some of which will focus on micro formats, RDF and other advanced SEO practices — is sure to keep this space dynamic as well.
Thanksgiving Google Update, Bing & News Corp Bait Google & Obama’s Google Embarrassment

www.seroundtable.com – There seems to be a major Google update going on, some suspect it is Caffeine related while others do not. Google said comment spam can hurt you bad. Rich snippets are now showing in other Google properties, such as Google UK and Canada. Don’t waste your time with a banned domain. Bing and News Corp try to team up to bait Google on indexing their content. Is Bing now handling 301 redirects properly? If you are banned in AdWords, you likely will never be unbanned. Google opened product ads to all US advertisers and then showed off all their new ad styles. Google Maps bug removed the local pack for web design like searches. Google AdSense bug showed weird HTML characters in the ads. Google is testing related search results in the top navigation bar. The Michelle Obama racist image reappeared and Google could not remove it, so they placed an ad as to why not. Finally, we posted all the Thanksgiving logos from Google, Yahoo, AOL, Ask.com, Bing, Dogpile and others – so check it out. That was this past week at the Search Engine Roundtable.
Bing SEO Tips Explained

Microsoft’s new Bing search engine will change the way we all have to approach SEO. With the introduction of Bing, gone are those days when you have to submit your site to search engines or get links from various sources just to be indexed on the search engines.
With the release of Bing, the first thing that online marketers want to inquire is to how to get their websites on the top of the results page of the search engine. Here are some SEO tips for Bing, which will help marketers to get noticed on Bing.
To make it to the top of Bing, make sure to have a title that correlates to the subject at hand. You must also link out. Many marketers do not favor linking out because they fear that their page rank will be lowered, especially with Google.
Try to add more and more text. In most search engines, the amount of text on the page usually is not usually a huge factor. However, Bing really likes pages with at least 350 words of text.
Bing appears to put a lot of stock into how long ago a domain was registered. For marketers, this means that you may look to purchase older domains if you want to get on good position in Bing.
Try using only the well-formed HTML codes in your web pages. You should always ensure to close all the paired tags and should see that all links open the correct webpage. For information on validating your HTML code, you can see either HTTP Conditional Get test tool or HTTP Compression or W3C Markup Validation Service. If your website contains broken link then MSNBot might not be able to index your website effectively, thereby preventing people from reaching all of your web pages. To find more information on finding broken links on your website you can see the Help topic for the Webmaster Center’s Crawl Issues tool.
If you have moved a web page then you must set up the webpage’s original URL to redirect people to the new webpage. Also, indicate whether the move is permanent or temporary.
You have to make sure MSNBot is allowed to crawl your website and is not on your list of web crawlers that are prohibited from indexing your website. For more information on this, you can see Control which web pages on your website are indexed.
You should use a Robots.txt file or tags to control how MSNBot and other web crawlers index your website. You can use the Robots.txt file to prevent web crawlers from crawling specific files and folders.
Keep all your URLs static and simple. URLs that are complicated or that change frequently are difficult to index as link destinations. In addition, a URL that does not change is easy for people to remember and bookmark. That makes your webpage a more likely link destination from other websites.
You should watch for malicious software. Watch out for the links to web pages on your website that lead to malware on third-party websites or contains malicious content, such as a maliciously corrupted document or image file, or a harmful JavaScript or ActiveX control, will be disabled and highlighted as Malware in Bing results web pages.
In the end, it is very important to get more links to your site in terms of quantity as well as quality and to make sure that your website’s content matches that with your keywords.
